Entrevista a Kelly Oram

domingo, 6 de abril de 2014

¡Hola!

QUESTIONS ABOUT KELLY:

La vida entre las páginas: What's your favorite book? Why?
Kelly Oram: It’s so hard to narrow it down! I’m not sure I can pick just one. I could probably list a top five though… Graceling by Kristen Cashore, Edenbrook by Julianne Donaldson, Leaving Paradise by Simone Elkeles, The Host by Stephenie Meyer, and Broken Aro/Broken Prince by Jen Wylie. I love them all for different reasons, but what usually draws me to a book are the characters and a great love story. If you can throw great writing and an epic adventure in there on top of that, even better.

LVEP: What's your favorite male character? And fame character? Why?
KO: For male I’d have to go with Prince Po from Graceling by Kristen Cashore, or Han Alister from the Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima, (Also one of my favorite books!) or Daemon Black from Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout and Sir Philip Wyndham from Edenbrook by Julianne Donaldsom.

Favorite female characters would have to be Beka Cooper from the Beka Cooper series by Tamora Pierce, Suze Simon from the Mediator Series by Meg Cabot, Kate Daniels from the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews, Mercy Thompson from the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs . Why? Well I like my men to be slightly cocky and completely swoon worthy, and I like my females strong and snarky.

LVEP: Who is your favorite writer? Why?
KO: I think I’d have to go with Meg Cabot on this. Because I simply adore nearly everything she’s ever written. She’s just so…fun. I also admire John Green and will read anything he writes simply because he wrote it.

LVEP: Why do you read? And why do you write?
KO: I read to escape. I read to be entertained. I read because I love it. I write to escape. I write to create. I write because it’s who I am.

LVEP: What do you like more, write or read? Why?
KO: I don’t think I could live without either of these activities in my life. Though, usually when I have to choose between the two I will always pick writing. (Unless I’m in the middle of a great book!)

...HER BOOKS:

LVEP: Which of your books is your favorite? Why?
KO: I love them all for different reasons but if I had to single one out, I’d probably go with Serial Hottie because it’s so different. It’s quirky and fun and a little crazy. It’s probably the closest to my own personality, and I just had so much fun with it that it will always have a special place in my heart.

LVEP: What is your favorite male character?
KO: And your favorite fame character? (in your books) Why? My favorite male is hands down Russ Devereaux from my Supernaturals series. I just love him. He’s so complicated and tortured and the underdog of a lifetime
but he never lets the world keep him down. When life kicks him, he simply kicks back harder and usually with a snarky comeback. My favorite female is Ellie Westley from Serial Hottie. Probably because she’s silly and strong and vulnerable all at the same time. Of all my characters she’s the most like myself. I see a lot of me in her and it’s impossible not to relate with her.

LVEP: Will you write another book?
KO: I will always be writing something. At the moment I’m in the middle of five different manuscripts! The hard part is having the time to write all the stories I want to write.

LVEP: Would you like having a film of your books?
KO:That would be awesome. I would be so excited. (Hint, hint, Universal or Sony!)

LVEP: If you could enter in one of your books, which one would it be?
KO: Ooh, Supernaturals definitely. Werewolves Vampires, magic? Awesome!

LVEP: Who of your characters is the one that we can see more about you?
KO: Again, that would be Ellie Westle. The smart-mouth tomboy with a temper, who’s completely shy when it comes to romance. (So me!)

LVEP: What's the one of your books that took more of your time while you were writing it?
KO: Remember Jamie Baker (Jamie Baker #3) is taking FOREVER! It’s taking me a million times longer than my other books. I think because it’s the last in the series, which makes it harder, but also because there are a lot of different ways I can tell the story. I’ve written the first third of the book seven different times now! Sometimes I think I’m never going to finish it.

LVEP: Can you tell to the people that haven't read your books yet, why they have to read them?
KO: I think my strength lies in my books simply being fun. If you like light, fun books with loveable characters, witty banter, and lots of romance, then you’ll enjoy my books.

LVEP: What were you thinking when you create Jamie Baker with her powers and everything?
KO:I was thinking that I love superhero stories and I wanted to create one of my own. I had a lot of fun coming up with her powers and her origin story!

LVEP: Have you ever been so polemic like Valerie or Avery (in the school or in other place)?
KO: I’m generally really easy going and I was quiet the slacker in high school. If anything I was more like Ellie or Grayson. Valerie and Avery would have been two girls I looked up to in high school and wished I could be more like.

LVEP: What did you think that the teenagers would say about the theme of the book when you wrote V is for Virgin?
KO: I knew it would be a sensitive subject, but I also thought if I could do it without it sounding preachy that it would intrigue people and they would like it. Hopefully it worked :)

LVEP: Did you called V is for Virgin like that because of the movie V is for Vendetta?
KO: Uh, nope. Never seen that one. I just came up with it because of the campaign she started in the book. If it was inspired by anything it came from reading alphabet books to my kids. A is for Apple. B is for Banana. C is for Cat. V is for Virgin… lol.

LVEP: ¿Vas a escribir otro libro?
KO: Siempre voy a estar escribiendo algo.

LVEP: ¿Qué estabas pensando cuando creaste Being Jamie Baker?

LVEP: ¿Llamaste a V is for Virgin por V is for Vendetta?
A is for Apple (manzana). B is for Banana. C is for Cat (gato). V is for Virgin... lol.
